Lift Weight To Lose Weight

When I’m at the gym I always have to question the people reading a book while walking at a snail’s pace on the treadmill.

No Judgement.

Happy you’re there. But….most likely you’re looking to get fit, strong, healthy and perhaps ‘tone up’ a bit.  Treadmill ‘booking’ is not the way to do it.

I have your solution though, so don’t worry.

And before we even start.

NO.

Weight lifting will not make you bulky. Ever.

You would have to train like a beast to look like the women that have very prominent muscle development. So breathe easy. Weight lifting will get you the body you want much quicker than long and boring walks on the treadmill will. I’m not putting down slow walks or treadmills, I love them both.  However, if you’re looking to lose weight, get stronger, feel confident and look great in your summer clothes…start pumping iron.

“The real key to fat loss is high-intensity exercise, especially strength training — with real weights, real sweat and real effort.”

In order to lose weight, you need to increase your body’s metabolic rate.

And lifting weights does just that.

Plus your ‘calorie burn’ stays raised long after your workout is completed. This is because your body has an increased demand for oxygen as a result of the fabulous workout you just did. And THAT means your body’s metabolic rate goes up and calories are burned, and weight loss can happen.

Another reason weight lifting helps with weight loss is the added lean muscle you have, more muscle equals more ‘calorie burn’, even at rest while you’re watching Netflix.  Another plus to having more muscle is that your lean muscle, even at rest, burns more calories than body fat. Therefore, by increasing the amount of lean muscle that you carry you decrease your amount of body fat.

Aim to lift weights 3 times a week AND focus on eating healthy and whole foods.

Your body is 90% made in the kitchen. FACT.
