I hope you’re having a lovely week, and staying warm! It’s a deep freeze out there.
How have you been sleeping this week?
I ask, as that’s what I want to talk to you about today. Sleep is one of THE most important parts of living a healthy and long life. And if I could be so bold, it’s THE most important part.
A Few Reasons Why Sleep is Your Best Ally:
1. Live Longer and Healthier
2. Less Stress and More Happiness
3. Look and Feel Younger
4. Weight Loss and Weight Management
5. Powerful Immune System and Better Brain Function
I’ve said it many times to clients before and I’ll say it again, there’s a reason they use sleep deprivation as a torture tactic.
Because it is torture!
Gahhh. Don’t you feel like a lunatic when you haven’t slept well?
And if that crappy sleep turns into 2-3 crappy sleep, oh my, game over. Insanity ensues. When you don’t sleep well you feel lethargic, you can’t focus, you want to eat every single carbohydrate in the world, you’re cranky with others, and overly emotional, sound about right?
I know that’s how I feel when I don’t sleep well, and it used to happen to me all the time. But lucky for me, I changed that, and now I sleep very well most nights.
There are two main reasons for this:
#1 – I know how important sleep is for health, so I make damned sure my lifestyle incorporates that.
#2 – I have an evening ritual, I take some Magnesium, climb into bed around 930pm, read for an hour, then bam, out like a light. I know you’re thinking, “Well good for you Sonja, what about me?!”
The first step to change is awareness – what is your biggest challenge at night?
Do you fall asleep ok, but wake up often in the night?
Do you find it hard to fall asleep?
Are you a typical woman that chooses bedtime to go over every shitty situation that could possibly happen to you in the future, and everything you forgot to do for tomorrow?
That used to be my favourite night time ritual by the way;)
Once you know what your biggest sleep challenge is, you can takes steps to fix the problem. Here are some solutions that just might do the trick:
1. Magnesium supplement before bed.
2. Meditation before bed.
3. Read before bed (an actual book, not on a screen).
Which sleep solution are you going to try tonight?
Live Inspired,
Sonja
